Clark Contracts partners with schools to deliver STEM event

Motherwell primary school pupils have gained first‑hand insight into the construction industry through a specialised careers and STEM event organised by Clark Contracts.

The event was hosted at Motherwell Library, which is adjacent to Clark Contracts site at the former Motherwell Town Hall, where the company is carrying out a major refurbishment of the Grade C listed building to create 20 modern, affordable homes for North Lanarkshire Council.

Twenty-five pupils from Cathedral, Glencairn, Knowetop, Ladywell and Muirstreet primary schools took part in the event which began with an overview from the site team on the construction activities taking place. Clark Contracts then delivered a tailored careers presentation, informing the students of the different roles available in the construction industry and the routes into these. This included a Q&A section where the team answered tailored questions by pupils and teachers.

Pupils then worked in teams to design and construct their own version of the historic clock tower, carefully managing their allocated budget, materials and overall design approach.

Michael Scanlan, Director at Clark Contracts, said: “By taking part in hands‑on activities like this, pupils get the chance to see how their creativity, problem‑solving and teamwork skills can translate into real careers within our industry. It’s inspiring to watch their confidence grow as they take on practical challenges and learn more about the wide range of opportunities available in construction. We hope this experience encourages them to continue exploring STEM subjects and consider the pathways that could lead them into future roles within our sector.”

Jordan Price, Project Manager, North Lanarkshire Council added “Events like this give pupils the opportunity to engage in creative challenges while learning about the wide range of local careers available in the construction sector. They also provide an excellent way for schools to connect with projects taking place within their local community. We would like to thank Clark Contracts for organising this valuable event and for creating a fun, engaging and meaningful learning experience for our young people.”
