Our 1st and 2nd year joinery apprentices have been put through their paces as part of their annual testing.
Our four 1st year joinery apprentices were set the task of working together to assemble a stud partition, forming a door opening with a plasterboard finish, the manufacture and installation of door sets including facings, door stops and ironmongery. The skills test took place in our Manufactured Joinery facility located next to our head office in Paisley.
The test is designed to gauge the progress made by the apprentices throughout the first year of their apprenticeship which is spent undertaking a mixture of classroom and workshop learning at college and on site experience. Part of the test was also to analyse communications skills and ability to work as a team when erecting the stud partitions.
Our four 2nd year joinery apprentices were asked to complete the same task as the 1st years with the addition of a timber floor with chipboard flooring and the formation of a lowered ceiling. The 2nd year test allows us to monitor how their skills have progressed over the year and for them to work as a team by planning their methodology and determining each other’s roles and responsibilities to complete the test.
The apprentices are being mentored by colleagues who also began their careers as apprentices at Clark Contracts and have now progressed through the company’s Academy to become Site Supervisors and Site Managers.
A further five new apprentices joined Clark Contracts Academy in August 2019 and will attend college over a four year period to achieve their apprenticeships in Joinery and Painting and Decorating whilst gaining experience of working on our sites.
Over 20% of employees are currently studying towards formal qualifications through Clark Contracts award winning Academy, with the company investing £500k in training in 2018.
