Charitable contractor donates time to good causes

Volunteering - Charity Day

All of Clark Contracts’ 250 employees are given the opportunity to spend one paid working day per year volunteering with a charity of their choice.

The scheme, introduced in November 2017 by the company’s steering group, means that over 2000 working hours could be spent supporting charities across Scotland. Employees can choose the charity, day and activity which they take part in.

So far, Glasgow City Mission, Marie Curie and the ACCORD Hospice have benefited from the scheme.

Four members of staff spent the day assisting Glasgow City Mission with a mailing initiative expected to help raise approximately £12k for the charity that provides care to vulnerable adults and children by fighting against poverty and disadvantage in Glasgow.

A member of the Clark Contracts Health and Safety Team organised a bag packing day at Morrison’s Supermarket in Stewartfield, East Kilbride. The collection raised nearly £800 for Marie Curie who provide care and support to individuals and families living with any terminal illness.

A group of  employees used their charity day to help the ACCORD Hospice in Paisley by clearing their paths and access roads during some of the worst weather the country has experienced. The ACCORD Hospice provide palliative and end of life care to people living with or affected by a life limiting illness in Renfrewshire and parts of East Renfrewshire.

A number of other care homes and hospices across Scotland benefitted as part of Clark Contracts ‘Pensioners Paths’ initiative  as over 50 tradespeople spent 400 working hours clearing their paths during the ‘Beast from the East’.

Gordon Cunningham, Managing Director, Clark Contracts, said “We have introduced this added benefit to ensure we continue to give back to the communities we work in. We think it is important for employees to be given this paid time off to support a charity of their choice. It’s great to see that a number of employees have taken up this offer already and we hope this continues throughout the year.”

Founded in 1978, Clark Contracts Ltd is a privately owned main contractor with six operating divisions; Construction, Fit Out, Small Works, Retail, Maintenance and Manufactured Joinery. The company works throughout the UK, employing over 250 employees and is number 72 on the 2018 Sunday Times Best Companies to Work for List. The proportion of business derived from repeat customers each year has averaged 76% over the past ten years and 72% of customers rate the contractor as ‘Impressive’ or ‘First Class’.
