Friday 20th May 2016 marked our 5th annual Spring Classic at Loch Katrine where our Clark Contracts cycling team were joined by 31 guests.
The event kicked off with a group cycle to the start of the Dukes Pass. This is where the competition began with a Cat 4 hill climb stretching over 3 miles long with competitors times ranging between 11 and 25 minutes.
The King of the Mountains’ jersey was won by Roy Diver, a member of team GVA, who was presented with his prize at the top of the hill. The riders then had a short pit stop before making their way to the start of the 3 mile time trial competition.
The Spring Classic had its’ first ever tie in the time trial with Manuel Cozzani of 3D Reid and Ian Churcher of Cooper Cromar both finishing on 8 minutes and 8 seconds with the majority of the cyclists completing this section within 15 minutes. Although this was an impressive score it didn’t quite beat our best ever time of 6 minutes 17 seconds which was achieved by Matthew Ansell of Michael Laird Architects back in 2012.
We then stopped for a quick refuel on the sunny banks of Loch Katrine where we presented Manuel and Ian with the rainbow jersey for their joint first in the time trial. During this break we also awarded the coveted yellow jersey to Mike McGlinchey of Pinsent Masons who had the best overall score and also won the top prize at last years’ event!
This was followed by a leisurely cycle back to the meeting point before everyone headed home after a hard days’ work.
This year we also ran a team competition, which was entered by GVA James Barr, Keppie Design and 3D Reid Architects. The winning team were Keppie, consisting of Tony Byrne, Nic Bone and Colin McFadyen with their individual results from the two events giving a combined total of 65 minutes and 22 seconds which was 2 minutes quicker than 2nd placed GVA.
