Friday 12th May 2017 marked our 6th annual Spring Classic at Loch Katrine where our Clark Contracts cycling team were joined by 34 customers.
During the 30 mile cycle around the banks of Loch Katrine, there were four prizes up for grabs for the fastest Hill Climb, Time Trial, Overall Winner and Overall Team Performance.
There was some fierce competition for the overall team prize, with teams entered by 3D Reid Architects, CBRE, GVA James Barr, KJ Tait Engineers, Michael Laird Architects and RSP Consulting Engineers.
The event kicked off with a bunch ride to the start of the Dukes Pass, where the competition began with a Cat 4 hill climb stretching over 3 miles with competitors times ranging between 10 and 20 minutes.
It was a good start to the competition for Michael Laird Architects, with Sandy Anderson recording an impressive time of 10 minutes and 51 seconds and being closely followed by teammate Tim Griffin who recorded a time of 11 minutes and 10 seconds.
Following the gruelling hill climb, the riders had a short pit stop before making their way to the start of the 3 mile time trial competition. Sandy Anderson continued his good form and completed the time trial within an impressive 7 minutes and 50 seconds with all of the cyclists completing this section within 15 minutes.
We then stopped for a quick refuel on the sunny banks of Loch Katrine where we presented prizes to the winners of the day.
As Sandy had won both competitions he was awarded the world champion jersey for overall performance. His teammate, Tim Griffin was presented with the King of the Mountains polka dot jersey and Ian Churcher of Cooper Cromar, who was our winner last year, was awarded the yellow jersey for his score of 8 minutes and 25 seconds in the time trial.
Following the successes of teammates Sandy and Tim, it was no surprise that the prize for Overall Team Performance was scooped up by Michael Laird Architects, with Sandy and Tim being joined by Stephen Gornall and recording an average time of 19 minutes and 41 seconds which was 2 minutes 42 seconds faster than 2nd placed 3D Reid Architects and 4 minutes 5 seconds faster than 3rd placed RSP Consulting Engineers.
This prize-giving was followed by a leisurely cycle back to the meeting point before everyone headed home after a hard days’ work.
