In support of 2016’s Scottish Apprenticeship Week in March we attended multiple events, raising awareness of our Academy and opportunities at Clark Contracts.
Firstly, our Academy Director, David Cooper attended Linwood High Schools Senior Speed Networking Event on Tuesday the 1st of March. At this event David met with S4, S5 and S6 pupils who are looking to choose their career path to tell them about career opportunities available at Clark Contracts and the construction industry in general.
On Wednesday 2nd March, one of our female Building Surveyors and Marketing Co-ordinator took part in CITB’s Girls into Construction event which took place at the National Construction College. This event was attended by 2nd year girls from four high schools in Renfrewshire who were shown a presentation designed to encourage more young girls to seek careers within the construction industry and relayed the message that construction isn’t just for boys.
The following week was World at Work week and David Cooper visited Bishopton Primary School where he carried out four presentations to P3, P4, P6 and P7 pupils. The presentation provided information on the nature of the construction industry as well as warning the children of the dangers associated with live building sites followed by a question and answer session. David also took along some hard hats and Hi-visibility clothing for the pupils to try on.
David Cooper said “It was great to get involved in Scottish Apprenticeship Week and inform the children of the opportunities available to them within the construction industry. I hope it encourages some of them to consider a career in construction in the future.”
