On Friday 26th April, Clark Contracts held an ‘Office Olympics’ fundraising event for nominated company charity SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) raising £750.
The event, which was held in advance of the 2024 Olympic Games commencing, included three ‘Olympic’ events, which were swimming, sprinting and the long jump, with gold, silver, and bronze medals up for grabs. Employees dressed up for the occasion, with each department representing a different Olympic country and competing as a team in the events.
For the swimming challenge, the gold medal was awarded to Craig in the Finance department who was representing Canada. Craig was the competitor who managed to hold his breath for the longest time, a total of 1 minute 29 seconds.
In the sprinting competition, having accomplished 259 steps during a 1 minute on-the-spot sprint, Director, Gerry was awarded the gold medal for Italy.
The longest jump was recorded at 2.35 meters by Jack, representing the Construction East division, who won the gold medal for France.
With the medals spread across seven competing countries, the Fit Out division, representing Italy, were crowned overall champions.
Following the competitive element there was pizza for lunch, along with some further games including putting, archery, and basketball, with a prize for the best dressed nation, which was awarded to the Small Works Division who were representing the United States of America. A raffle was also held, with the lucky winner receiving an additional day’s holiday.
Clark Contracts has been supporting SAMH since 2020, and officially launched a fundraising partnership with the charity in June 2022. Since then, the company has raised over £15,000 for the charity.
Gordon Cunningham, Managing Director, Clark Contracts said: “We are delighted to have raised a further £750 for SAMH. Our employees have shown great support to our partnership so far, which is supporting the vital work done by SAMH. We look forward to continuing our partnership and increasing awareness of mental health.”
Clark Contracts were joined by Rachel Bottomley, Account Manager from SAMH, for the event, who explained the difference the funds raised by Clark Contracts are making across Scotland. Speaking about the event, Rachel said: “It was a pleasure to join Clark Contracts colleagues at their Office Olympics day and say thank you in person for raising an incredible £15,000 for SAMH over the last few years. The atmosphere in the office was full of laughter, and it was fantastic to see people taking time out of their busy working days to come together, socialise, and contribute to a great working culture.
“Thanks to the ongoing support of Clark Contracts, SAMH can continue to be there for people who need us most by providing mental health support and accessible, practical information."
SAMH currently operates over 70 services in communities across Scotland, providing mental health social care support, addictions and employment services and more. Together with national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention, and physical activity and sport, these services inform SAMH’s policy and campaign work to influence positive social change.
