Clark Contracts will be delivering the £750k refurbishment of Cumnock Bus Station for East Ayrshire Council.
The improvements were designed following a feasibility study and public consultation carried out in November 2018 and include a feature terminal building in place of the existing shelters which was amended to take into account public concerns about a lack of protection from the weather.
With the concourse being refurbished and enhanced landscaping, the Tanyard area will be more attractive and accessible. The contract will last 16 weeks with completion scheduled for spring 2020.
Councillor Jim Roberts, cabinet member for economy and infrastructure at East Ayrshire Council, said: “We’ll all be very happy to see Cumnock Bus Station’s new makeover. It will form a fittingly modern gateway to the town square and beyond and is in keeping with all the regeneration and new development which has brought so many great improvements to the townscape in recent years.
“One big benefit will be the improvement in shelter, accessibility and the installation of real time technology and dedicated, monitored CCTV which will be monitored 24/7. It means passengers can be assured of travelling in comfort and safety.”
Gerry Cummins, Director at Clark Contracts, added: “We are looking forward to continuing our experience of working in the transport sector having recently completed the reconfiguration of Glasgow’s Buchanan Bus Station and further developing our relationship with East Ayrshire Council to deliver this unique project.”
