15th June 2017 By Clark Contracts Ltd
On Saturday 3rd June 2017, 4 Clark Contracts employees along with 29 other cyclists took part in a cycling challenge raising over £14k for Rothesay based charity, Calum’s Cabin.
The event, which has been running annually since 2015, is organised by Steven Irvine, Tony Curran, and Calum MacCalman.
The cycle included two options for cyclists, either the tough and challenging 100 mile cycle or shorter 60 mile route.
The 100 mile participants kicked off at 8am with the ferry from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay where they cycled around the Isle of Bute before catching the ferry from Rhubodach to Colintravie, with the route then leading them to Portavedie.
From Portavadie they took the ferry to Tarbert and cycled to Port Bahn Holiday Park for a bite of lunch before following the route back and meeting the 60 mile cyclists at the Portavadie marina. The two groups then made their way back to Rothesay where they had fish suppers for dinner before catching the ferry back to Wemyss Bay.
Clark Contracts provided a support van and driver who accompanied the cyclists carrying food, water and emergency bike repair equipment.
Calum’s Cabin is a charity set up by Caroline and Duncan Speirs, parents of Rothesay boy, Calum Speirs, who died 13 months after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. Calum and his family wanted to create a place where other children and their families who are dealing with cancer could come for respite. Read more about the charity here.
