The University of Edinburgh have awarded Phase 2, which is the final phase, of the Pleasance Redevelopment to Clark Contracts, who have already delivered Phase 1A and 1B of the £3.8m of improvements.
The Category B listed Pleasance Complex is made up of 5 buildings and plays host to a variety of student societies and activities acting as the main hub of the Edinburgh International Festival, with approximately 500,000 visitors walking through its doors every August during the Festival.
Clark Contracts, who have completed £11m of work for The University of Edinburgh in the past 3 years, were awarded Phase 1A back in October 2015, which consisted of £1.2m of refurbishment and alterations to No.60 Pleasance, the home of the university’s student association and the Quaker Meeting House, a popular venue during the Festival.
Following this, phase 1B was negotiated in March 2016 and comprised of the £600k refurbishment of the Salisbury Building to provide improved multi-use space for societies within the university.
Having successfully handed over Phases 1A and 1B, Clark Contracts were awarded the final phase, worth £1.9m in August 2016. This will see the Theatre and No. 48 Pleasance undergo an internal refurbishment to existing rooms, circulation areas and toilets and an extension constructed to the rear of the theatre to provide a new entrance and additional storage.
Clark Contracts are currently delivering over £15m of work in the East of Scotland and recently expanded their office space in Rosewell House, Newbridge to provide additional space as they continue to grow.
The works are due for completion in May 2017 and will provided improved facilities for students as well as benefiting the Edinburgh Festival with improved access and facilities.
