Grand opening of new Artists Centre, The Jacobs Building
27th September 2016 By Clark Contracts Ltd
The construction of a new £1.2m artists centre at Cove Park, on the Rosneath Peninsula in Argyll and Bute, overlooking Loch Long has been completed by Clark Contracts.
Cove Park provides interdisciplinary artistic residencies across performing, visual arts, crafts, literature and music, for both individuals and groups, offering time and space to make new work and find new ways of working.
The Jacobs Building, designed by architects Cameron Webster, will support Cove Park’s expanding programme of artist residencies and public events, with spaces for workshops and performances and comfortable communal space for visitors.
The new build comprises a single storey timber kit building with a mixture of timber cladding and stone facings. It features a kitchen, communal spaces, accommodation, library, office space and studios available for year round use by resident artists, the local community and visitors.
The project was funded by Creative Scotland and a number of trusts and individuals, including major awards from the Robertson and Monument Trusts. It is named after Peter and Eillen Jacobs, cove park’s founders.
The new centre has increased Cove Park’s capacity to twelve residents and will allow a greater diversity of residencies among art forms for both Individuals and groups.
Seona Reid, the Chair of Cove Park, said “The new building gives us a fantastic new resource to support Scottish artists, and indeed artists from around the world, as they make new work and find new ways of working together. We are really delighted by the professional job Clark Contracts have done for us to make such a building and their genuine interest and enthusiasm for our work is impressive.”
Michael Scanlan, Director, Clark Contracts said “It has been a pleasure to work with Cove Park and the rest of the team to deliver this exciting new centre which we hope will provide a fantastic platform for current and future artists”.
