Main contractor Clark Contracts has been named Skills Development Scotland’s (SDS) Youth Employer of the Month.
The business received the Award for its commitment to Modern Apprenticeships, traineeships, work experience placements and engagement with local schools.
David Cooper, responsible for Clark Contracts’ Academy said: “It is fantastic to receive this award from SDS and have our commitment to developing young people recognised in this way.”
“We currently have 16 apprentices who work on our sites across Scotland as well as a number of other programmes that support the recruitment and long term development of young talent through our Academy.”
Clark Contracts has offices in Paisley and Newbridge, Edinburgh and provides construction, refurbishment and maintenance services for a range of private and public sector clients.
The company programmes are strongly linked to skills needs in the construction industry and allow Clark Contracts employees to learn in a way that works best for the business.
SDS Relationship Accounts Executive Gary Gray nominated the business which was established as a specialist joinery company in 1978.
“Clark Contracts has an incredible culture of encouraging individuals to develop their skills while contributing to the business as a whole. This starts with strong links to the schools and communities where its construction projects are based, recruiting local people and encouraging everyone in the company to achieve their potential,” he said.
Chairman of SDS, John F McClelland CBE, added his congratulations and said: “The commitment shown by this company to developing its entire workforce is to be commended. It clearly values the contribution young people make and sees the benefits that investing in young people can bring.”
