Pupils at Mossvale Primary School and Nursery Class and St James’ Primary School in Paisley learned about health and safety on a building site, with a creative twist.
Local contractor, Clark Contracts, is delivering a £4m extension and refurbishment of both schools for Renfrewshire Council, scheduled for completion in 2017.
The contractor’s Health and Safety Team visited both schools to deliver talks and show a DVD highlighting the dangers on a construction site. The children were then asked to design posters to alert others of the dangers they had learned about.
Sixteen class winners across both schools were each presented with a £10 book voucher.
In addition the overall best design from each school, submitted by Nicole, P7 St James’ and Scott, P7, Mossvale have been professionally printed for display around the site. Each school also received a cheque for £50.
Michael Scanlan, Director, Clark Contracts, who presented the prizes to pupils said, “It’s clearly important that everyone attending and working at both schools are fully aware of the importance of health and safety around what will be a working construction site for the rest of this year and into 2017. What was most impressive was the creativity of the children, who were able to express what they had learned in a highly effective visual manner.
