The new Moorpark Primary School was officially opened on Tuesday, May 27 as pupils, teachers and guests came together for a special event.

North Ayrshire Provost Anthea Dickson carried out the duties by unveiling the plaque to formally mark the occasion.

The new facility, sitting adjacent to the former building, welcomed staff for the first time on Monday 28th October, with the pupils joining them from Wednesday 30th October to commence a new chapter in their learning journey.

The school has 12 primary classes and a 16-place early years provision and its spacious hall, breakout areas and an all-weather pitch offer a fantastic and welcoming new learning environment.

Constructed by Clark Contracts, the building, part of North Ayrshire Council’s Capital Investment Programme, also has sustainability and the environment at its heart.

As one of the Council’s key priorities, the environmental performance of the building was a significant factor in the development of its design and selection of materials.

Some of those key features include:

  • an effective natural ventilation strategy which will provide natural, fresh air throughout the year and solar PV panels provide free, renewable electricity for the school building.
  • improvements to local pedestrian and cycle pathways, as well as the provision of new cycle and scooter storage facilities at the school for all pupils, staff and visitors to use.

Anthea Dickson, North Ayrshire Provost said “The pupils were an absolute credit to the staff and their families and were so warm, welcoming and, of course, talented. We are thrilled that they are getting the opportunity to start their education journey here at Moorpark Primary.

Councillor Shaun Macaulay, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “This is a special day for the young people and just one of the many amazing memories they will have from their time at Moorpark. Not only will it be a fantastic learning environment but the building will also be energy efficient and it has been developed with sustainability at its core.”

Head Teacher Rachael Carlisle said: “A huge thanks to the Provost for officially opening our wonderful new school. I am incredibly proud to be the Head Teacher and am supported by a fantastic staff, school community, and most importantly brilliant young people. We very much look forward to what the future brings and we couldn’t be happier or prouder of our school.”

Michael Scanlan, Director at Clark Contracts added “We were delighted to attend the official opening of Moorpark Primary School and hope that this new state of the art building will be a valuable asset to both the pupils and the wider community."
