Clark Contracts have completed the construction of the new £4.5m indoor tennis centre within the Oriam, Scotland’s Sports Performance Centre at Heriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh campus.
Work began on the Indoor Tennis Centre (ITC) in September 2022 and doors were opened to the public in December last year. It has been funded in partnership between Oriam, Heriot-Watt University, the LTA, LTA Tennis Foundation, sportscotland and Tennis Scotland, through the Transforming Scottish Indoor Tennis (TSIT) fund.
The facility was officially opened on the 7th of February with a plaque being unveiled by Maree Todd, Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport at the Scottish Government and Prof. Richard A. Williams, Principal and Vice Chancelor of Heriot-Watt University. The event was also attended by a group of around 100 children from local primary schools who were invited to participate in a fun-filled morning of tennis activities.
The new facility adjoins Oriam’s existing complex, which already boasts full size indoor and outdoor synthetic pitches, seven grass pitches, 12-court and 4-court multi-sport halls, public and performance gyms, a hydropool, physiotherapy clinic and much more.
Michael Scanlan, Director, Clark Contracts added, “It has been great to work with Heriot-Watt University and the design team to deliver this state-of-the-art centre in Edinburgh and be involved in the creation of a positive learning space for future Scottish Tennis athletes.”
