The main entrance to the University of the West of Scotland’s Paisley campus has been enhanced through a £1.7m design and build project delivered by local contractor, Clark Contracts. The new atrium and learning space was officially opened on Friday 12th February by HRH The Princess Royal.

The redevelopment of Paisley Gateway has transformed the main entrance by enclosing the existing ground floor open area adjacent to the Brough Hall with a new roof and cladding to form a ground floor entrance hub with a café area, social space and reception desk.

A focal point of the newly refurbished entrance is the ETFE (Ethylene Tetra Flouro Ethylene) roof made from the same material as that used on iconic buildings such as the SSE Hydro, Glasgow and the Eden Project in Cornwall.

Michael Scanlan, Director, Clark Contracts, said: “This project has allowed us to add to our growing portfolio of university clients and with the University located only a mile from our head office, it is a great source of pride for us to have delivered a project that has transformed the Paisley streetscape so positively. We are pleased Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal has been able to visit this exciting new development for its official opening”.

The University of the West of Scotland is Clark Contracts’ tenth university client with others including the Universities of Glasgow, Strathclyde, Edinburgh, St. Andrews and Glasgow Caledonian University.
