On Thursday 20th November, we attended the Business Insider Awards 2014 in the Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh, where we were nominated for the Training and Development Award.
The competition was tough with fellow nominees in our category including Kwik Fit Insurance, The Pheonix Car Company and Crieff Hydro Ltd who have all been selected due to their commitment to training and developing their people.
We were shortlisted as a result of our commitment to continuing education and training of our employees. We are currently investing in vocational qualifications for staff across the whole company from Modern Apprentices to Senior Managers with Directors/Senior Managers currently pursuing level 5 SVQ’s and Site Managers and Contracts Managers pursuing level 4 SVQ’s.
We actively participate in the Training for Work Scheme. Over 20 work experience/training placements have been offered in the last 2 years alone with a number of trainees going on to accept permanent positions either directly with us or our subcontractors. Over the past 3 years, 7 of the organisations employees have been supported to secure degrees in subject such as Quantity Surveying and Marketing Management.
This shortlisting follows on from our nomination for the Employer of the Year Award at the Scottish Business Awards sponsored by Virgin Money earlier in the year.
Gordon Cunningham, Managing Director of Clark Contracts said “This second award nomination in 2014 further supports our company wide commitment to training and development. We currently deliver 33% more formal training days per year compared to the industry average and are looking to increase this in 2015.”
