The refurbished West Calder Library delivered by Clark Contracts for West Lothian Council has been shortlisted in this year’s SPACES (Society for Public Architecture, Construction, Engineering and Surveying) Yearbook and Awards.

The project at West Calder Library, delivered over a 20 week period, comprised the refurbishment of West Lothian’s only Carnegie library to allow council staff to be relocated into the building to create one point of contact for customers.

Clark Contracts were able to sympathetically restore the library’s original features, including the original timber floor found under the carpet, whilst creating a modern environment with new shelving and furniture.

SPACES objectives are to promote buildings in local authorities together with high standards of practice, facilitate the sharing of the knowledge and experience of members, to develop the skills and expertise of members and represent the interests of members to other organisations.

The winner will be revealed at an award dinner taking place on Friday 3rd November at the Forest of Arden Marriot Hotel and Country Club Meriden in Birmingham.
