A sod-cutting ceremony to mark the start of construction work has been held at the grounds of the new St Fergus’ Primary School in Paisley. The new school is being built by local contractor Clark Contracts, next to the existing school on Blackstoun Road.
Jointly funded by Renfrewshire Council and the Scottish Government, the new school is part of Renfrewshire Council’s £52 million investment programme to improve local primary schools, and pre-5 and additional support needs education.
The single story building will accommodate 175 pupils and is scheduled to open in spring 2017.
Pupils from the school and head teacher Mhairi McDonald were joined at the sod cutting ceremony by Minister for Learning Alasdair Allan, Councillor Jacqueline Henry, Convener of the council’s Education and Children Policy Board and Michael Scanlan, Director, Clark Contracts, who said, “It’s fantastic to have such an important project right on our doorstep, only one mile from our head office. We look forward to continuing to work with Renfrewshire Council, having delivered £16 million of school refurbishment works previously at Johnstone and Castlehead High Schools”.
