Founded in 1978, Clark Contracts is a privately owned main contractor with several operating divisions; Construction, Fit Out, Small Works, Retail, Housing, Maintenance and Manufactured Joinery. We employ over 250 people with offices in the East and West of Scotland.
We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience and professional development opportunities within the construction industry. You will work closely with our experienced Quantity Surveyors, learning the skills and knowledge required to manage costs and contracts effectively across a range of projects.
We are keen to discuss these roles with recent school leavers, individuals already studying towards a relevant degree or recent and upcoming graduates.
Role & Responsibilities
Working closely with experienced Quantity Surveyors/Commercial Managers the successful candidates will:
- Assist a team of surveyors within the company.
- Work closely with Contracts Management and Estimating departments.
- Take an active role in our Supply Chain Management Initiative to ensure relationships are developed with subcontractors.
- Assisting in the preparation of cost estimates and budgets for construction projects.
- Supporting the management of contracts, including preparing tender documents and contracts.
- Working with the project team to ensure costs are controlled and value is maximized throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assisting with the measurement and valuation of works, including preparing bills of quantities.
- Participating in site visits and liaising with clients, contractors, and suppliers.
- Preparing and submitting regular reports on project progress and financial status.
- Learning and applying relevant construction laws, regulations, and standards.
- Supporting the resolution of any contractual and commercial issues that may arise.
Candidate
The successful candidate will have:
- A strong academic background, with a focus on mathematics.
- The ability to solve problems by acting on their own initiative.
- Be IT literate with excellent knowledge of IT packages including Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel)
- Be self-motivated and proactive.
- A positive attitude and the ability to integrate and play an active part in our project teams.
- Fully embracing our Customers’ 1st campaign to continually improve the way we deal with our customers.
