Construction Company, Clark Contracts, has committed to the local communities in which it works by providing work experience, career advice, school, college and university visits.

The company, ranked number 21 in the list of Best Companies to work for in Scotland in 2018, has attended 28 events in schools, colleges and universities across Scotland including careers fairs, mock interviews and career carousels.

So far in 2018 Clark Contracts has reached over 1500 young people with information about careers in construction through attending careers events and providing presentations at schools, colleges and universities through its award winning Academy.

Most recently, Clark Contracts visited The City of Glasgow College to speak to their ‘Women into Construction’ course to raise awareness of the variation of career options in construction.

Andy Pollock, Head of Construction & Built Environment at the City of Glasgow College, said “Collaboration is vital to promote the industry as a positive career destination, we are delighted to be working with an employer who shares our vision for an adaptable, competent and diverse workforce fit for the ever changing future of construction,”.

In addition to informing young people about the opportunities within the construction industry, Clark Contracts has also provided 16 individuals with work experience in roles such as joinery, construction management and quantity surveying.

Gordon Cunningham, Managing Director, Clark Contracts said “We are committed to investing in the next generation. We feel we contribute to better informed individuals who will hopefully consider a career in the construction industry.”

Clark Contracts held its own annual careers events in Paisley and Edinburgh in March aimed at informing young people about the recruitment process for its apprenticeship and traineeship vacancies. Over 100 applications were received and assessment sessions have already been completed with shortlisted candidates asked to attend a face to face interview with senior members of staff.

The contractor recently partnered with West College Scotland to provide a work experience placement for a pupil from St Luke’s High School as part of the foundation apprenticeship course which pupils can participate in over two years at school to gain practical experience in their chosen subject.
