Construction work to create a new innovative high tech digital valet parking scheme at Edinburgh Airport is being completed by Clark Contracts.

Passengers will check their car in next to the terminal building and drop their keys into a secure chute. The vehicles will be moved to an offsite car park then returned for collection for the drivers return.

The new system is part of a £12m investment designed to increase the capacity for parking by 5,000 by 2021.

Cameras will take a comprehensive 360 degree images of vehicles when they are dropped off, to avoid disputes over their condition when they are returned.

Passengers will be able to use an app, email or booking reference to check in before leaving their keys.

Upon arriving back at the airport, passengers will receive a QR code and directions to allow them to access the locker their keys are stored in.

Alec Hodgson, Head of Digital and Parking at Edinburgh Airport said “We’ve looked at our current parking options and identified an innovative facility which will revolutionise parking at Scotland’s business airport.

“By using the latest technology and adapting to the digital age we are in; we are offering a self-service product which is more convenient for our passengers. This is the first approach of its kind in Scotland and again we are proud to be leading the industry by embracing technology and planning for the future.

Michael Scanlan, Director Clark Contracts said “We are excited to be delivering this innovative project for Edinburgh Airport who have been a customer of Clark Contracts’ since 2014.”
