Galston Town Hall reopens following multi-million-pound refurbishment

June 16, 2026

Clark Contracts has completed the refurbishment of one of Galstonโ€™s most prominent buildings, following a multi-million-pound restoration project delivered on behalf of East Ayrshire Council.

The refurbished Galston Town Hall has been carefully preserved to reflect the traditional baronial character of its setting within the Galston Conservation Area. Key external features, including the red sandstone faรงade, balcony, turret and decorative stonework dating back to 1925, have all been retained and restored.

Internally, significant restoration works included the preservation of the main first-floor chamber, which features original wooden panelling, a large fireplace and decorative ceiling. This space will be available for community use as a flexible venue for meetings, small events and exhibitions.

Alongside this heritage-led approach, the project placed a strong emphasis on accessibility. An open, welcoming and adaptable building has been created, incorporating a new lift serving all levels, as well as new ramps and stairs linking the building to the Church Lane car park, improving movement and connectivity within the town.

The building is now home to the new Galston Town Hall, local library and Skills and Learning Hub, supporting community engagement and lifelong learning in the area.

Michael Scanlan, Director at Clark Contracts said โ€œWe are proud to have delivered the refurbishment of Galston Town Hall on behalf of East Ayrshire Council. This project carefully balanced the preservation of the buildingโ€™s historic character with modern accessibility requirements, transforming it into a vibrant civic space that the Galston community will enjoy for many years to come.โ€
