Our Academy, formed in 2006, encompasses all employees undertaking modern apprenticeships and college and university courses. We ensure new talent is brought into the company by employing and supporting people through structured training and development, vocational training schemes and on a part time basis where we fund the course undertaken at College or University. These opportunities extend from trade operative positions through to Degree and Masters Courses.
As an Investors in Young People Gold accredited employer we regularly recruit new entrants into the business across all divisions and departments. We are members of the 5% Club which is a commitment to ensuring at least 5% of our workforce are apprentices, sponsored students or graduates on formal training programmes by 2017. At present over 20% of our workforce are on formal training programmes.
Over the past 5 years, 13 of our employees have graduated from college or university with formal qualifications and a further 21 are due to graduate by 2022. We currently employ 4 apprentices in the third year of their joinery apprenticeship, 7 in their second year and 11 in the first year of their trade apprenticeship.
New entrants into our Academy are supported not only by their Line Managers, but by trained mentors who are either already in the Academy or have recently graduated and progressed into more senior roles within the company.
Upon graduating from the Academy, employees are encouraged to ensure they are continually learning and improving by attending various CPD seminars and regular training courses relating to their role to encourage them to progress.
